KARL MOHR NEWS - April 6th, 2004 1. RECORDING: "VAMPIRES IN CLUBLAND" LIVE/REMIX (CD) 2. RECORDING: MINEFIELD REMIX (12") 3. LATEST MIX: "SKY OF AN ARCHANGEL" SOUNDTRACK (MP3) -------------------------------------------------------- 1. RECORDING: KARL MOHR & THE FALLEN ANGELS "VAMPIRES IN CLUBLAND" LIVE/REMIX (CD) : compact disc / 67 minutes / 16 tracks / 2004 : distributed by Interdimensional Industries After the mutant Christmas album and the chill-house 12", Mohr throws us another curve-ball with this split darkwave release: a live recording of his electronic set, and a remix EP based on his goth-rock classic "Unidentified Flying Object". The live component of "Vampires In Clubland" features an intimate concert recorded at Club Nia, Toronto. Performed are songs from Mohr's two previous full-length CDs "The Heck" (1997) and "The End of the Line" (2000), as well as two older songs from the "Fibre Optic Rockets" cassette (1993). "I Love You When It Rains" is a foretaste of Mohr's next full-length studio album of dark electronic songs. With the wide range of musical territory on his many recordings - darkwave and industrial, techno and house, electro and bleep-rock, lush sound effects, piano ballads, electroacoustic - it's interesting to see how Mohr takes it all to the stage in a presentable format. Rather than using a full live-band, or settling for electronics only, Mohr struck a compromise for this live show. He ran a computer-driven synth for the electronic tones and beats, and enlisted the talents of Ben Heaslip on keyboard, and Ian Revell on electric guitar. Mohr also solos on a distorted synth that resembles a crossbow, as heard on the bone-dry minimal opener "Waiters". The result is a very full and heavy sound, loosely falling into the darkwave or industrial genre, but with avant garde and glam touches. Certainly the spirit of the show is electro-punk; as techno-instrumentals take the backseat here to dark vocal-driven songs. UFO REMIXES: with the success of Mohr's track "Unidentified Flying Object" on campus radio, and a wealth of remixes generated, it seemed necessary to release this collection of six remixes as a bonus B-side EP. The remixers, and their origins: KONSORTEN, Vienna, Austria; THEATRE OV IDIOTS, Calgary, Canada; DRUMS & MACHINES, Fredericton, Canada; MINEFIELD, Toronto, Canada. The final remix on the CD is a manic, hi-energy treatment by Karl Mohr. As an obvious advertisement for his live show, and promotion of his talents beyond studio production, Mohr's concert record is a loud but coherent representation. The edgy, challenging music is delivered with full energy, and the additional live musicians, Heaslip and Revell, really take it up a notch. * Purchasing info & track list: http://www.karlmohr.com/noflash/cdvic.html * Promotion of this CD to international radio is underway; contact us for a station copy if you have a radio show in your area. * Publications and Reviewers! RECORDING: MINEFIELD REMIX (12") Through the great efforts of Interdimensional Industries' Regan MacLeod, two songs from epic darkwave maiden Tamara Kent's project MINEFIELD have been released in club format on vinyl. Mohr's "Hungry Devils" remix has been reworked from the "Decomposition" remix CD into a remastered DJ-friendly 12" version. The CRYPTOMNESIA remix has also been remastered for vinyl presentation. A-side = heavy industrial techno; B-side = hypnotic tribal trance.
